Family Roots,
Future Growth:
How Catawba Valley Supply Builds Success Through Generations

In the heart of Newton, North Carolina, Catawba Valley Supply isn’t just a plumbing supply company—it’s a family legacy built on hard work, trust and deep community roots. Founded in 1983 by Alex Ervin, the business began with a simple mission: to provide quality plumbing products backed by unmatched service. More than 40 years later, that mission still stands strong, now carried forward by the next generation of Ervins.

Although Alex remains a daily presence in the office, the company is now co-led by his sons, each taking on a key role in driving the business forward. Vice President Josh Ervin oversees purchasing and vendor relationships. Quint Ervin manages the company’s finances as CFO and Gabe Ervin directs day-to-day operations. Derek Irvin manages the Concord branch while David Hamm manages the Newton location. Together, they form a tight-knit leadership team that’s both agile and experienced.

With two North Carolina branches—in Newton and Concord— Catawba Valley Supply has grown steadily while staying true to its roots. The company remains a go-to partner for both residential and commercial plumbing solutions. Recent years have seen increased focus on commercial projects, including schools, hotel installations and other large-scale builds, thanks in part to strong supplier partnerships like Sloan, State water heaters and Charlotte Pipe.

What sets Catawba Valley Supply apart isn’t just its extensive inventory of plumbing fixtures, tools and supplies—it’s the people.

It’s a workplace built on mutual respect and shared success.

Unlike many in the industry shifting to online-only platforms, Catawba Valley Supply stays committed to personalized service.

That personal touch—and independence—has become a competitive advantage. As larger corporations acquire local suppliers, Catawba Valley’s agility and responsiveness give it an edge. “We can pivot quickly, offer alternatives and pick up customers and employees who prefer our approach.”

The company has seen significant growth for more than 15 years and continues gaining market share across the region. A big part of that success, Josh says, comes from being part of IMARK Plumbing. “They’ve been a game changer—whether it’s helping with new vendors, rebate programs or advice, IMARK is always there.” Looking ahead, Catawba Valley Supply shows no signs of slowing down. The team is excited for their upcoming Customer Appreciation Day centered around Milwaukee Tools, featuring food trucks and festivities as a way to thank their loyal customers.

In an industry constantly evolving, Catawba Valley Supply proves that family values, genuine relationships and staying true to your mission can still drive incredible growth. It’s not just business— it’s legacy.
